Midland Power Cooperative's board of directors is currently seeking members interested in serving on the 2027 Nominating Committee. As a nominating committee member, you'll help identify potential board candidates interested in serving their co-op and community.
Background
Each of Midland Power’s districts is represented by three nominating committee members. These crucial volunteers are charged with finding qualified and interested candidates for the co-op’s board of directors. Since directors serve three-year terms, nominating committee members are responsible for identifying one or more board candidates from each district annually.
Just like board candidates, nominating committee members are elected directly by the Midland Power membership at the co-op’s annual meeting. Nominating committee members serve one-year terms and may run for consecutive terms.
In addition to identifying director candidates, nominating committee members also identify and nominate members to run for the nominating committee.
To serve on the nominating committee, a member must be in good standing and reside within the district they are elected from.
Nominating committee members are expected to attend one in-person meeting that usually takes place near Webster City in early February. At that meeting, the committee reviews the nominating process and receives guidance on how to identify and evaluate potential candidates. The meeting lasts approximately two hours, and a meal is served. Nominating committee members also participate in one or two brief conference calls.
Following the kickoff meeting, each nominating committee member is asked to approach potential board and nominating committee candidates to determine qualifications and interest, with the names of interested members being forwarded to the committee chairperson.
While nominating committee members are not required to attend the Midland Power Cooperative annual meeting, they are encouraged to do so. They are also encouraged to volunteer as tellers on the morning of the annual meeting, helping to tally ballots.
If you or a fellow member is interested in serving, please fill out the application below or contact Beth Wirtz at (800) 833-8876 or via email.
