Election ballots arriving this week

Board Secretary Randy Christensen signs an affidavit of mailing, signifying that this year's ballots have been delivered to the United States Post Office.

This year’s Midland Power Cooperative annual board election will see District 2 incumbent Bill Harleen face two challengers, while three incumbent directors will run unopposed.

Jeremy Davis and Steve Larson, both from the Ames area, are looking to unseat Harleen, who joined the board in 2019.

District 2 stretches from northeast Boone County down to northwest Polk County and includes portions of western Story County from Gilbert south to Sheldahl.

Directors Kim Rinker, District 1; Rick Thompson, District 3; and Jim Vierkandt, District 4, are all running unopposed.

Members will also elect next year’s nominating committee from a slate of candidates, including former Midland Power Director Charlie Gilbert, who is running in District 4.

Candidate profiles can be found here.

Ballots will arrive in members’ mailboxes during the first week of June. Completed ballots can be returned via the included prepaid postage envelope or dropped off at any Midland Power office. All ballots must be received back at the Boone office by 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 26th.

Members can also return completed ballots to any of the upcoming member appreciation events or vote in person at the annual meeting, which will take place on Thursday, June 26th, at 7 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds’ Clover Hall in Jefferson (DIRECTIONS).

All members who submit a ballot will be entered into a drawing to win a $50 bill credit (3 awarded per district).

Midland Power Cooperative’s board is comprised of 12 directors, 3 from each of the co-op’s 4 districts. Directors serve 3-year terms.
