Heat pump owners can now take advantage of the co-op’s newest rebate designed to help them keep their HVAC system operating at peak efficiency.
The heat pump check-up program enables members to obtain a $50 rebate on a typical heat pump inspection and tune-up.
While members are encouraged to have their system serviced annually, the rebate can only be received once every three years per heat pump unit.
“We know that annual inspections play a key role in helping extend the life of heat pumps and all heating and cooling systems,” said Dan Olson, an energy service advisor with Midland Power. “Proper maintenance also helps ensure systems operate as efficiently as possible, maximizing savings for the member.”
The new program will also help evaluate how installers and technicians set heat pump balance points. The balance point is the temperature at which the extractable heat energy gets too low for a heat pump to heat a home or business adequately.
While older heat pumps often struggled to keep up when temperatures dropped below 32 degrees, newer cold climate models can operate well below freezing, with some models operating into negative temperatures.
By ensuring their system’s switch-over point is set according to the manufacturer's recommendations, members can enhance their savings by keeping their heat pump operating as the primary heating source for as long as possible before switching to their backup heat.
