Each year, Touchstone Energy Cooperatives of Iowa highlights outstanding volunteers across the state through their Shine the Light contest. In 2025, Midland Power Cooperative members nominated eight individuals whose service strengthens communities across our service areas. We are proud to recognize each of these nominees with a $625 donation to their respective organizations. We appreciate the partnership of our wholesale power providers — Central Iowa Power Cooperative and Corn Belt Power Cooperative — for helping make this support possible.

Our first nominee this year, Karl Jungbluth, has played a pivotal role in strengthening conservation efforts at Ledges State Park near Boone. His work to remove more than 40 acres of invasive species has significantly improved the park’s forest health, and his leadership was critical in securing grants that funded equipment and specialized restoration crews.

In 2023, Karl helped establish the park’s first endowment fund — a milestone that supports long-term stewardship and ensures future generations can continue to enjoy the park.

During Ledges State Park’s 100th anniversary in 2024, Karl further contributed to public outreach by leading free monthly bird hikes. These programs introduced visitors to birding while demonstrating how habitat restoration supports wildlife across the park.

Karl’s continued dedication has had a meaningful and lasting impact on Ledges State Park and the area. The award donation will support the development of a new entrance kiosk at the campground.
