Marilyn Jurgena and Suzanne Rowen

Each year, Touchstone Energy Cooperatives of Iowa highlights outstanding volunteers across the state through their Shine the Light contest. In 2025, Midland Power Cooperative members nominated eight individuals whose service strengthens communities across our service areas. We are proud to recognize each of these nominees with a $625 donation to their respective organizations. We appreciate the partnership of our wholesale power providers — Central Iowa Power Cooperative and Corn Belt Power Cooperative — for helping make this support possible.

Our third nominee, Marilyn Jurgena of Hampton, has committed more than six decades to community service. A familiar face in the area, she has given her time, leadership, and energy to numerous local organizations and initiatives.

After operating Marilyn’s Boutique for 43 years, Marilyn transitioned her passion for people into volunteer leadership. She guided the children’s ministry at Faith Baptist Church and served on the Franklin General Hospital Auxiliary Board, including two terms as president. For nearly 20 years, she also tended the hospital’s gardens, offering comfort and beauty to patients and visitors.

Marilyn continues her service today as president of the Hampton Senior Citizens Center, where she oversees programming, social activities, ice cream social events, and meal services for area seniors — including delivered meals for those who are homebound.

A tireless and generous leader, Marilyn remains a constant source of encouragement to those around her. The Shine the Light donation will be used to enhance the Senior Citizens Center and ensure it remains a welcoming resource for all those who rely on it.
