Shine the Light — Sue Lund

Volunteer fuels food access for Jewell families

Nominee: Sue Lund • Nominator: Ortrude Dial
Organization: The Lord's Cupboard (Jewell, Iowa)

Sue Lund and Ortrude Dial.

Each year, Touchstone Energy Cooperatives of Iowa highlights outstanding volunteers across the state through their Shine the Light contest. In 2025, Midland Power Cooperative members nominated eight individuals whose service strengthens communities across our service areas. We are proud to recognize each of these nominees with a $625 donation to their respective organizations. We appreciate the partnership of our wholesale power providers — Central Iowa Power Cooperative and Corn Belt Power Cooperative — for helping make this support possible.

Our seventh nominee, Sue Lund has devoted countless hours to supporting The Lord’s Cupboard food pantry, a critical resource for individuals and families in Jewell facing food insecurity.

Through her leadership and hands-on involvement, Lund helps ensure the pantry remains accessible and well-organized. She regularly recruits and coordinates volunteers to stock shelves, assists during open hours, and manages food and monetary donations from local organizations and church youth groups.

Sue’s commitment also extends well beyond the daily operations. She leads fundraising efforts and donation drives throughout the year to help keep shelves stocked, responding to a steady increase in demand for pantry services.

While The Lord’s Cupboard partners with the Food Bank of Iowa to supplement its supply, available resources often fall short of community needs. Support through donations plays a vital role in sustaining the pantry’s operations, allowing Sue and the team at The Lord's Cupboard to continue providing both nourishment and hope to those who need it most.
