Midland Power’s web and mobile SmartHub app is about to get a whole lot smarter.
Beginning this summer, members will gradually see a series of new tools, or widgets, added when they log onto SmartHub. These widgets are designed to give members greater insight into their electric usage and help them better manage their bills.
Key among the improvements will be the integration of new advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology that utilizes disaggregation to accurately calculate how a member is using electricity.
The software works by analyzing the co-op’s automated meter reading system data with an AI algorithm that breaks apart whole-home usage and identifies individual appliance types.
Appliances, like air conditioners, electric heating, and refrigerators, leave distinct "fingerprints" in energy use data. These unique markers can be identified and estimated, creating usage projections.
In addition to displaying a detailed monthly breakdown of a member's energy use, the data can also be used to create bill projections and high bill alert notifications.
Members who have signed up for SmartHub will also begin receiving new email notifications. These new emails will include a monthly summary that captures how much electricity they used during their last billing period and provides insight into electricity usage by appliance type. Other emails include a mid-month bill projection and high usage alerts.
Members can opt out of any of these notifications by clicking the unsubscribe link in the email.
Members already registered for SmartHub will receive a welcome email this summer inviting them to complete a home profile survey. This optional data helps improve results, and members’ information remains private.
