Scammers Target Utility Customers

Scammers Target Utility Customers

NEW UPDATE 5/23/18:

We have been notified that members in our Iowa Falls area have received scam phone calls in the last couple of days where the caller requests gift cards with the gift card number and threatens to disconnect service if they don't receive the gift card number.  If you receive one of these calls, report it to local law enforcement. If you are concerned about the status of your electric account, call your local utility at the phone number listed on their bill, website, and/or in the phone book. Midland Power will never request gift cards as a form of electric account payment.

2/22/18:

Police in the communities of Boone and Jefferson are informing the public that local citizens are receiving scam phone calls where the caller says they're from the electric company.

The caller threatens to disconnect service if they don't receive a payment over the phone. Please help us raise awareness of these scam phone calls. If you receive one of these calls, report it to local law enforcement. If you are concerned about the status of your electric account, call your local utility at the phone number listed on their bill, website, and/or in the phone book.

Never fall for a scammer. If they threaten to turn off your utilities, call your local utility's phone number from their website or your bill.
